“The world is a beautiful and terrible place. Deeds of horror are committed every minute and in the end those we love die. If the screams of all earth’s living creatures were one scream of pain, surely it would shake the very stars. But we have love. It may seem a frail defence against the horrors of the world, but we must hold fast and believe in it, for it is all that we have.”

there is never quite such a thing as hopelessness when you love and are loved back.

Yes, quite a lovely day. Tired, though, so need to rest. All best for a great new year, Carol.

Hi Ms Peabody -- You asked me to visit? Very curious about why. And by the way, Happy New Year!

Rocky, I wanted you to read the story about the carousel, because there's a possible children's book there, and you said you were a developmental editor....

So that's why I asked you to email me. I wanted to call your attention to the carousel.

I will read it this evening, Mugsy. However, there's been a misunderstanding. I work in educational publishing, but not in children's literature. I work at the textbook end of the business, a totally different animal. You would know as much as I about children's books ... Sorry.

Did you get my comment written this morning? Since I don't see it (you may just have been too busy to check in), I'll repeat a bit. I do work in educational publishing, but in textbooks, not children's lit. However, I did read the piece, Mugsy. Moving images at the beginning -- what war has done. The animal carvings themselves are fascinating. The giraffe and the speckled snake must have an unusual story to tell all their own. Like I said, you know as much as I about children's lit. Would be glad to brainstorm with you on what directions a story might go ... but you'd be collaborating with an amateur. Let me know if you want to carry on further. -- Rocky

Yes, Rocky, I did. I don't really want to brainstorm in public about the ideas we have, so was thinking about how to respond to you, since you didn't provide an email. Obviously, we're thinking along the same lines, however. If you think of anyone we should be in touch with, please let me know.

Okay, Mugsy. Look for my email. Oops, should have made the subject line my name on wOw. Whatever. Just sent it ... you should get it soon.
